Romanian summer camp for 150 Moldovan children

Around 150 children from Moldova have left on the evening of August 13 to spend one week in the Sulina summer camp, in the district of Tulcea, Romania. They will be participating free of charge, as high-achieving students, olympiad and, national and international competition winners in the 2017-2018 academic year, as well as for great abilities in music, plastic arts, and sports, IPN reports.

Tatiana Covalenco, a student from the Stăuceni commune, said she was happy and anxious before departure. She likes the seaside, because it is wonderful and fun. “I’m going to Romania, to the sea, to have fun. Mom made me a surprise. One day she met with a lady and asked me if I want a surprise, and I said yes, so she gave me the wonderful news that I’m going to the seaside,” said Tatiana Covalenco.

“I am very happy to be going to the seaside. I have been numerous times, and I always wait for the summer, to go to the sea again and frolic in the water,” said Patricia Bâzgu, a student from Chișinău.

“The departure mood is great, as I am about to visit some new places. I haven’t been to Sulina before. I have attended another camp this summer, yet this trip is special, more awaited, we are going to the sea,” mentioned Felicia Ganev, a student from Cantemir.

Mihaela Dodii from Orhei said that she was going to the seaside for the first time, and that she was happy about it. “I will spend a week there. I hope to return with good impressions,” stated Mihaela Dodii.

The children’s trip was made possible under the cooperation agreement between the Governments of Moldova and Romania, said State Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Research Angela Cutasevici.

According to Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ioniță, this year – on the eve of the Union Centennial – Romanian authorities have increased the number of children to spend time in Romania. “I said it before, and will keep on repeating it – education is important. We invest in youth, education, in the whole educational branch, from kindergarten to gymnasium,” said Daniel Ioniță.

The trips are part of the Bucharest – Chișinău Education Cooperation Program, for middle- and high-school students. The summer camp operates on the Black Sea shore, in the Costinești resort, Corsa hotel, throughout periods: 24.07 – 31.07; 31.07 – 07.08; 07.08 – 14.08; 14.08 – 21.08; 21.08 – 28.08. Participants are provided three cost-free meals a day. Roundtrip transportation is also covered by the Program. Overall, around two thousand children get to participate.
