The Eastern Partnership Summit that will take place in Riga will bring clarity concerning the further relationship between Moldova and the European Union, sociologist Ionel Sava, PhD and professor at the University of Bucharest, said in the talk show “European Horizon” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Though he said he is optimistic about Moldova’s fate after the Riga Summit, Ionel Sava does not rule out the possibility that the decisions will be taken under the shadow of Moscow. “The Riga Summit will be different from the Vilnius Summit of 2013, which ended with the refusal of former Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovich to sign the Association Agreement with the EU. The summit will take place in conditions of distrust on the part of Russia and there may be changes of tactic on the part of the EU. The regional context is inflamed and the population is marked by this regional crisis. Most of the European countries face a verbal aggression on the part of Russia,” stated Ionel Sava.

Political analyst Oazu Nantoi, program director at the Chisinau Institute of Public Policy, said the decision that will be taken at the Riga Summit concerning Moldova will be overshadowed not by Russia, but rather by the failure of the Moldovan political class. “Our government discredited itself fully. It is seriously affected by corruption and is unable to manage the country. After the ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU, the Parliament of Moldova died, while the politicians entered a new election campaign. After the November 30 elections, everyone expected that the three pro-European parties will form a coalition, but they didn’t do so. Now we have a minority government that is unable to rule. These things will not be neglected,” he stated.
