Experts welcome the Ministry of Education’s initiative concerning the studying of the Romanian language in nurseries for other language speaking children. The issue was discussed in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Olga Gonchearova, who heads the Union of Peoples of Moldova, welcomed this initiative. “It is an important step taken by the authorities. The studying of any language is welcome. The representatives of the minorities must understand that the language is a means of communication and communication in a multinational state is very important,” she stated.
Former presidential adviser on problems of ethnic minorities Victor Grebenshchikov also approved of such an initiative, but considers that the same norm must be introduced for all the nursery schools. “Though the linguistic situation during 25 years changed a lot, Soviet tendencies are still preserved. The young Romanian speakers, who were born after the declaration of independence, know and speak Russian, while a large part of the young people who speak other languages do not know and do not speak Romanian. Regretfully, the language of the Romanian speakers leaves to be desired. I think Romanian should be studied in all the nursery schools,” he said.
Media analyst Cristian Tabara also welcomed the Ministry’s initiative. “The studying of the Romanian language in nurseries for children speaking other languages is more than opportune. Romania is also a multinational state and the representatives of ethnic minorities there know the official language. The studying of Romanian since early childhood by children speaking other languages will lead to the disappearance of disagreements between representatives of ethnic minorities,” he stated.
The Ministry of Education proposed studying Romanian in nurseries for other language speaking children and worked out a national program in this regard. During five years, the program will be implemented in over 200 nurseries.
