The performance of the present Government of Moldova and the efforts made to continue making progress on the path to European integration are recognized in all the great capitals of Europe and the Western world, said the President of the Senate of Romania Mircea Geoana, who came to Chisinau on a working visit, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference, the European official said this first dialogue between Romania and Moldova after the elections confirms Romania's exceptional interest in the European integration efforts made by Moldova. “There is no other more important foreign policy objective in Romania at the moment than to create conditions for Moldova to succeed in joining the EU,” said Mircea Geoana. “A precondition for Moldova's successful integration is the integration of its infrastructure and the connection of the border crossing points of the two states.” According to the official, Romania wants the financial support that it pledged to Moldova to be allocated as soon as possible, but the Romanian Parliament is first to ratify a relevant document. “I assure you that it will happen with maximum celerity. This thing may represent an encouragement for the first joint meeting of the Governments of Romania and Moldova. In Chisinau, I will insist that the interparliamentary agreement signed by former Head of Parliament and Acting President Mihai Ghimpu and the administration of the Romanian Parliament start to be implemented. There should be close strategic relations between our countries,” Mircea Geoana said. The President of the Senate of Romania will have meetings with Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the parliamentary group leaders and with Moldova's Acting President and Speaker Marian Lupu. The last visit by Mircea Geoana to Chisinau was paid in 2004, when he was Foreign Minister.
