The Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu underscored the active support that Romania offers to the Republic of Moldova for opening the EU accession negotiations ahead of the European Council’s meeting of December 14-15. The statement was made in a telephone discussion with Moldova’s Prime Minister Dorin Recean, IPN reports.
“The Government of Romania will continue to strongly support the European course of the Republic of Moldova and to be a reliable partner in the whole accession process,” stated Marcel Ciolacu.
The two officials also discussed bilateral cooperation projects, primarily in the field of crossborder energy interconnections, and the financial assistance that Romania provides to the Republic of Moldova for development.
At the beginning of November, the European Commission recommended opening accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. A final decision on the opening of negotiations is to be taken at the European Council’s meeting of December 14-15.
