Romanian opera festival to support reconstruction of Chisinau Philharmonic

The Royal Opera House “Virginia Zeani” became involved in the campaign to raise funds for the reconstruction of the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich” of Chisinau. A special edition of the Royal Festival will take place during August 20-22 in public places and cultural centers in Romania’s Târgu Mureș, IPN reports.

According to the organizers, the event represents reverence for Virginia Zeani, one of the greatest sopranos of the world who was born in Transylvania.

“The Opera Festival “Virginia Zeani” by signing an agreement assumed the role of partner and mediator in the campaign to raise funds for the reconstruction of the Chisinau Philharmonic. We are near the authorities, musicians and Bessarabian public. They lost a valuable center with a huge symbolical value,” said Marian Jurgiu, the Festival’s director.

“We set the goal of campaigning actively for collecting the funds needed for the reconstruction, alongside lovers of classical music from the Republic of Moldova and the diaspora and the reliable European and international partners. The Royal Opera Festival “Virginia Zeani”, a friend with tradition, is near us in this approach. We will together develop projects that can show the importance of our institution to those who are fond of beauty and are ready to help,” said the National Philharmonic’s director.

According to Svetlana Bivol, the assessment of the building will be completed soon. There will be formulated the requirements and it will be clear what funds are needed for the reconstruction of the Philharmonic.

At the end of September 2020, the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich” of Chisinau was seriously damaged by a fire that the firefighters fully extinguished the next day. The ceiling of the main hall collapsed.
