Romanian MP Eugen Tomac presented a progress report in Chisinau on November 23. In a news conference, he spoke about the main results he achieved in the Romanian Parliament in 2012 – 2016 and the future initiatives, IPN reports.

Eugen Tomac said that during four years he suggested a number of bills, including those concerning the institution of the National Day of the Union of Bessarabia and Romania, with celebration on March 27, the creation of a parliamentary commission that would discover the truth about the massacre at Fantana Alba of 1941 and other legislative initiatives aimed at simplifying the regaining of the Romanian nationality. He also submitted a bill regarding postal voting.

“I did my best to make the cause of the Republic of Moldova more visible in Romania. I requested the Romanian MPs to reduce the consular taxes levied in the process of restoring the Romanian nationality by 90% so that a Romanian birth certificate costs at most €9, not €90 as now, while a passport costs €10, as opposed to €100 now. I’m honored to have held this post. I have one motivation – to remove the obstacles between the two nations,” stated Eugen Tomac.

He also said that the work he did in support of the Republic of Moldova brought only one quality to him – the only Romanian politician banned from entering Russia. “This honors me. I feel much better in Chisinau and Bucharest, where there are many Romanians,” said the MP.

Eugen Tomac also spoke about the People’s Movement Party of Romania. He presented the party’s two candidates for seats on Romania’s Parliament who run on behalf of the Bessarabians: Constantin Codreanu and Doru Dendiu. The MP said the two candidates will represent Moldova’s cause in the Parliament of Romania with great devotion.

It should be noted that parliamentary elections will be held in Romania on December 11. A number of 35 polling places will be opened for these elections in Moldova.
