The Romanian-Moldo-German Cultural Center “Dumitru Dorin Prunariu" in Nuremberg, Germany managed to set the world record the longest and also the heaviest brâu, a traditional woven belt. Taking three months to make, the piece was measured to be 1,667.41 meters long and tipped the scales at 70 kilograms.

The artifact was measured a day ago by a commission from the Book of Records on Jakobsplatz in central Nuremberg.

The start for making the belt was given on February 24, when Romanians celebrate Dragobete, the traditional version of Valentine’s Day. On that day, the D.D. Prunariu Center asked Romanians from all over the world to sew, weave and otherwise craft a piece of belt that is at least one meter long, and send it to Nuremberg by June 24, the Universal Day of the Traditional Embroidered Romanian Blouse.

“Many organizations from many countries, from New Zealand to Moldova, obliged and over a thousand people contributed (…) There was an organization that sent us as many as 40 meters”, Ionela van Rees-Zota, coordinator of the D.D, Prunariu Center, told Agerpres.
