Romanian MEP representing the Social Democartic Party (PSD)Victor Negrescu opened an office in Chisinau on October 4. The politician announced his personal support for Moldova’s European integration and reiterated Romania’s readiness to share its experience in this field, IPN reports.

“I wanted to open such an office because during the last seven years I have dealt with the European policy at the level of the Social Democartic Party through the PES Activists Romania, which is a network of members and sympathizers of the PSD interested in the European affairs. I thus came into contact with many ordinary people and many members of the Democratic Party of Moldova, who expressed interest in these subjects. As a member of the Committee on Budgets and as the youngest Romanian MEP, I‘m ready to support the European course chosen by the people of Moldova and to act like a liaison for the young people interested in the European issues,” stated Victor Negrescu.

He noted that he will stage an awareness-raising campaign centering on the EU, including a series of debated about how Moldova can access European funds. He also aims to create a body like PES Activists Romania in Chisinau.

The opening event was attended by Oleg Tulea, an MP of the Democratic Party of Moldova and a member of the PES. The lawmaker underlined the importance of direct communication between the MPs from Chisinau and Brussels. “We have intense communication with our colleagues from the PSD and the European Parliament. I think not only the relations and communication at institutional level are important. We must also have personal contacts between the lawmakers of Moldova and the MEPs,” stated Oleg Tulea.

Victor Negrescu is the youngest Romanian MEP. He is a permanent member of the Committee on Budgets and a substitute member of the Committee on Legal Affairs and the Committee on Constitutional Affairs of the European Parliament.
