Learning of the Romanian language will become more accessible in the sociocultural integration of refugees in the Republic of Moldova. A curriculum and a module for learning Romanian through an online platform were launched today, March 31, by the National Association of European Trainers, IPN reports.

The curriculum for learning Romanian for refugees, which will soon become available in a volume, and the Romanian distance learning module (through invat.antem.org) will be accessible free, including for children. The covered themes will refer to the state symbols, geographical position of the Republic of Moldova, national holidays, customs and traditions, national costumes, etc.

Doctor of Philology Ala Zavadski said the aforementioned themes were selected because these involve words that help the refugees interact in any situation. “The communication skills will help the trainees not only to integrate into society, but to also read an announcement and to understand it,” stated the university lecturer.

In the same connection, head of the National Office of the UN Refugee Agency Traian Turcanu said there are now about 500 refugees in Moldova, mainly from Syria and Ukraine, and most of them speak Russian. When they learn Romanian, they will enjoy more social integration opportunities.

“The Romanian language is one of the three pillars, besides the possibility of identifying a place to stay and access to the labor market, on which the integration of refugees in the host community is based. It is not only about refugees, but also about any foreigner who is on the territory of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Traian Turcanu.

The curriculum for learning Romanian for refugees and the distance learning module for studying Romanian as a foreign language through the platform invat.antem.org form represent an initiative of the National Association of European Trainers that is implemented with financial support from the UN Refugee Agency.
