Romanian high-school applications are now open for Moldovan candidates
The registration for Moldovan candidates wishing to study in Romanian high-schools opened on Tuesday, July 10. According to the information provided by the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth in Bucharest (METC), the deadline for the applications will conclude on July 25.
The application files must include: a registration form (which can be downloaded on the MECT website www.edu.ro), copies of the gymnasium certificate, the transcripts for grades V-IX, birth certificate, passport/ identity card of the candidates’ parents, medical certificates to confirm suitability for studies (none of these certified by the notary). Moreover, declarations signed by the notary, co-signed by parents, regarding their acceptance, as well as a ¾ format photograph should also be attached. The candidates applying for theological pre-university studies must also attach a recommendation from their local religious cult coordinator.
The application files will preferably be sent by post, or will be brought directly to the application centre placed within the “M. Eminescu” Lyceum, on Nicolae Balcescu Street, 24, Iasi, code 700117.
The Romanian embassy will be informed about the results of these applications and in order to issue visas to all successful applicants; it will not however facilitate or make exceptions once the applications for visas are made.
This year, the Government of Romania offered 850 tuition-fee-free places with scholarships and 150 tuition-fee-free without scholarships for secondary education institutions. 50 of these scholarships are offered for students from Transnistria.
Moreover, for university studies, there will be 1000 tuition-fee-free places with scholarships registered and some other 50 places without scholarships.
There will be 120 places given for masters/ research students, 90 for masters and 30 for research students with scholarships and 75 places for postgraduate students without a scholarship. There are 30 places with scholarships allocated for PhD students.
The conditions for acceptance for university degree programmes will differ from previous years. This time there will be an application file for registration, as well as an entry exam directly at the university of choice, taking place concomitantly with the examinations taken by Moldovan candidates already studying in Romanian schools. However, these will be competing for different places within the faculty (for this year, there will be 1000 places given by the Romanian state, 399 of these will be given to students who have graduated from Romanian high-schools).
The application files for university studies (who have graduated from Moldovan high-schools), masters and PhD, can be sent via post preferably or candidates can apply directly at the office of the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth (Spiru Haret Street, 12, sector 1 Bucharest, code 010176 from July 1 to August 10).
