Romanian heroes killed in fighting in summer of 1941 commemorated in Țiganca

The Romanian heroes who died in battles in the summer of 1941 were commemorated at the Romanian Cemetery of Honor in Țiganca village. The event was staged by the Defense Attaché Office of Romania’s Embassy in Chisinau, IPN reports.

A group of priests of the Bishoprics of Southern Bessarabia led by His Holiness Veniamin officiated at a commemoration ceremony, while members of the Embassy and the attending persons laid flower wreaths and bouquets. The ceremony involved Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Țurcanu.

“Not we built Romania. Our predecessors did it, putting the allegiance to the country ahead of the own interests and lives. Now Romania is in our hands and it is our duty to pass it on to our successors nicer, stronger and more prosperous,” stated Ambassador Cristian-Leon Țurcanu.

As many as 1,020 Romanian heroes were buried at the Romanian Cemetery of Honor in Țiganca, which was inaugurated on June 1, 2006.
