Romanian Government approves agreements to build and modernize three bridges over the Prut

The Government of Romania approved the agreements with the Republic of Moldova on the building and  modernization of three bridges over the Prut. A new road bridge will be built between Albița (Romania) and Leușeni (Republic of Moldova), while the road bridges that exist between Sculeni (Republic of Moldova) and Sculeni (Romania) and Cahul (Republic of Moldova) and Oancea (Romania) will be modernized, IPN reports.

“Evidently, the repair and the new infrastructure will lead to a better human and commercial relationship between the Romanians from both sides of the Prut,” the spokesman for the Romanian Government Mihai Constantin told a news conference.

Earlier, the Moldovan authorities said the modernization of bridges will fluidize traffic between the two states, will facilitate trade on the domestic and international markets, will offer benefits for increasing the EU’s connectivity with Eastern Europe.

The works will be financed by the Government of Romania until the end of 2027 and are part of the national development strategy “European Moldova 2030”.

The Moldovan-Romanian agreements were signed on May 9, 2023.
