Romanian firms require knowledge of Russian language as hiring requisite in order to attract workers from Moldova

High unemployment rates in Bistrita-Nasaud (Romania) and wage pretensions of Romanian workers have compelled the local employers to lure workers from Moldova by creating special hiring conditions, writes the Romanian newspaper “Evenimentul Zilei”. In order to be sure that the job offers will attract Moldovan nationals, the firms require the knowledge of Russian as a hiring requisite. Thus, the firms reduce the number of Romanian competitors sent by the County Employment Agency (AJOFM). The law compels every employer to announce the vacancies to each AJOFM. According to “Evenimentul Zilei”, employers explain that the job seekers from the Agency’s databases have exaggerated demands and are not qualified enough. “The qualified ones have left the country long ago. If we want to survive the market we have to bring people from other countries. The workers from Moldova are the most accessible”, explained a construction employer. Three firms which require knowledge of Russian as a hiring requisite have announced their vacancies to AJOFM Bistrita-Nasaud this week. One of them, Best Start, is looking for 22 unqualified workers or with incomplete construction qualifications. Another one (Combasa) is seeking 25 female dancers, all speaking Russian, while the third one is hiring legal experts according to the same language criteria.
