Romanian diesel fuel could reach Moldovan farmers in a few weeks

This week, the emergency ordinance of the Romanian Government is to be adjusted so that the process of bringing diesel fuel to Moldova and distributing it to farmers starts in a few weeks. Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced this following a discussion he had on the issue with his Romanian counterpart Marcel Ciolacu, IPN reports.

“The state does not have storage capacities. And we don’t bring only a mug of diesel fuel, forgive my analogy. The point is that we have 4,000 tonnes. This is a lot. Initially, it was an idea to take the fuel to the port in Giurgiulești. But then no one agreed to offer this storage capacity. Why? Because it is a certain type of diesel fuel and, respectively, after use, those storage facilities must go through an expensive technological process. Correspondingly, the people simply didn’t want to offer this capacity,” Dorin Recean explained in the program “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau.

According to him, in the end, the Government managed to convince an economic agent to provide this storage capacity. “A few days ago, I discussed the issue with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu. This week the emergency ordinance of the Romanian Government is to be adjusted and this will trigger, in a few weeks, the process of bringing and distributing the diesel fuel,” stated the Prime Minister.

The authorities in April 2023 announced that Romania decided to donate 4,000 tonnes of diesel fuel to Moldova so as to help the Moldovan farmers.
