Romanian consulates in Cahul and Balti to open July 9
The Romanian general consulates in Cahul and Balti will be inaugurated on July 9 in a ceremony officiated by Moldovan Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca and his Romanian counterpart Theodor Baconschi, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Moldovan citizens living in the district of Cahul and the municipality of Balti will be able to apply there for visas, Romanian citizenship, passports, border permits, notarial documents, etc.
Representatives at the Romanian diplomatic mission in Chisinau said the two consulates were built to meet Schengen standards in preparation of Romania's joining the free movement zone in March 2011. Although Bucharest hasn't announced any formal decision yet, the Moldovan applicants could be required to pay a fee for Schengen visas from March 2011. No fee is charged at present for the Romanian visas.
With the opening of these consulates, it is expected that the workload will diminish at the consular office in Chisinau, which issues 700 visas daily, despite its staff being halved due to the crisis.
At the end of 2009 the Romanian Government appointed Gentiana Serbu and Dumitru-Nicanor Teculescu as general consuls to Cahul and Balti, respectively.
