The Romanian citizens with the right to vote from Moldova will be able to vote by mail in this year’s parliamentary elections of Romania, following the amendment of the Election Law of Romania. The voters will also be able to put their names on an electoral register based on which polling places will be established at the place of residence if there are more than 100 persons registered there. The changes made to the electoral legislation were presented by the senator of the National Liberal Party of Romania Viorel Badea in a news conference at IPN.

According to the senator, the citizens who will not be included in the electoral register will be unable to vote at the polling place opened in the village or town where they live. “If they put their names on the register, there will be two options – to register at one of the polling places that will be established at the place of residence if there are at least 100 applicants and to vote by mail,” stated Viorel Badea.

He noted that if the voters choose postal voting, they will be issued with an envelope with the ballot inside. “These are the main amendments made to the Election Law that refer to the Romanian citizens from Moldova,” said Viorel Badea.

He also said that the persons who will not register in the electoral register will be able to vote only at the Embassy or the Consulates of Romania in Moldova.

Those who will want to vote by mail will be able to register in the electoral register in April – June. Those who will want to vote at polling places at the place of residence can register between April and October.

Those who want to have their names included in the electoral register will be able to download the application from the website www.roaep.ro.

The amendments concerning the new voting procedures to Romania’s Election Law were adopted last June.
