Romanian Chamber of Deputies agrees ratification of Convention on Small Scale Border Traffic

The law on the ratification of the Convention on Small Scale Border Traffic between Moldova and Romania was adopted unanimously by the Chamber of Deputies of Romania at its Monday's meeting. The Senate is to take a final decision, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Romanian portal Mediafax. Under the agreement, the Moldovans living within 50 km of the Moldovan-Romanian border will travel visa-free within a similar area in Romania. They will need the passport and a special permit that will be issued by the Consulates of Romania free of charge. The permits will be valid for two to five years. The period of stay should not be longer than three months. The accord covers about 1.2 million Moldovans from 651 settlements of 18 districts. The Convention on Small Scale Border Traffic between Moldova and Romania was signed by Premiers Vlad Filat and Emil Boc in November last year.
