Romania will try to convince European partners to support constitutional referendum in Moldova
Romania supports the Alliance for European Integration's intention to hold a referendum on the modification of the Constitution and considers that it will be a big mistake to hold early legislative elections in Moldova. Related statements were made by Romanian senator Viorel Badea in a news conference on March 15, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We are convinced that Moldova can return home, in Europe, only if the Constitution is amended. Why? Because Moldova moved to a new development stage. It came out of a deep hole and is trying to go towards the light, but cannot because the fundamental law was formulated wrongly and though out for other epochs,” the senator said.
Viorel Badea expressed his conviction that early parliamentary elections in Moldova will be a big mistake as the people will not make a correct choice in a period of crisis.
He also said that he will have discussions with Romanian MEPs and will try to explain what's happening in Chisinau to the EU member states.
“Moldova needs Europe. It is now headed by an Alliance for European Integration. Moldova has never had a greater wish to come closer to the EU. No obstacles should be now placed,” the senator said.
Early in March, the government coalition announced its decision to hold a referendum on the modification of the Constitution of Moldova. The four leaders of the Alliance for European Integration said the present Parliament should work for four years and there should be held no early elections.
