Romania will significantly increase the imports of wine and other agricultural products from Moldova. The issue was discussed by President Nicolae Timofti and his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu over the phone, the President’s adviser on public communication Vlad Turcanu told the press, quoted by IPN.
The imports of Moldovan wine into Romania now constitute 3-5%.
The heads of state agreed to make approaches to hasten the construction of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline and certain Moldovan-Romanian energy projects.
The embargo on the Moldovan wine imposed by Russia was also discussed by Nicolae Timofti in a meeting with the new EU Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola. The European official said that any political or economic pressure against an EaP member state because of the commitments made to the EU is unacceptable.
The official also said that in the context of the political support provided by the EU to Moldova, 28 EU ambassadors will pay an official visit to Chisinau on October 1-2. Also, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle will take part in the Forum of NGOs in Moldova on October 4.
