Romania will financially support finalization of Moldova-Romania border biodiversity conservation project

Romania will provide 382,000 euros for finalizing Moldovan-Romanian-Ukrainian joint management projects for conserving biodiversity and monitoring environment factors, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Romanian Government’s press service, the project “Joint Management for Conserving Biodiversity on Border between Moldova and Romania” will contribute to enhanced efficiency of the environment and nature protection policies through cooperation and cross-border harmonization. There will be created an integrated system for protecting biodiversity in the cross-border zone, improving environment authorities’ abilities to implement the legislation on nature conservation, exchanging experience between the environment authorities of Moldova and Romania and carrying out of joint measures aimed at preserving biodiversity in border areas. The second project, “Integrated System for Monitoring Environment, Biodiversity and Natural Resources of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation on Border Between Romania and Ukraine”, will enable the authorities of the two countries to take correct decisions regarding the use of the natural resources, insuring thus a sustained development of the protected regions, and to maintain a balance between economic development and environment protection”. The two projects benefit from grants offered through the National Program PHARE 2004. They will be implemented by the Iasi Environment protection Agency and, respectively, the Administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation.
