Romania will convince EU member states to allow Moldova to join them swiftly, senator

Romania will make effort to persuade the European states that Moldova should become a member of the EU as soon as possible, Senator Petru Filip, who heads the foreign policy commission of the Romanian Senate, said in a meeting with a Moldovan Parliament’s delegation led by the head of the commission on foreign policy and European integration Ana Gutu, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, Ana Gutu, co-chairwoman of the Join Moldova – Romania Commission for European Integration, assured that the Moldovan authorities are making effort to ensure the irreversibility of the European course, including by continuing the reforms in the justice sector and by fighting corruption. She also said that the ratification of the Association Agreement by Moldova’s Parliament will be a historical event. She expressed her conviction that Moldova will become an EU member as quickly as possible, probably in 2019, when Romania will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Senator Petru Filip assured that Romania will continue to be near Moldova. “Romania aims to find other pleading advocates for Moldova to join the EU as soon as possible,” he stated, reiterating Romanian Senate’s determination to swiftly ratify the Association Agreement between the EU and Moldova.
