Romania will continue to support Moldova in its European integration efforts

Romania will continue to support the Republic of Moldova in the European integration process, including by strengthening the interparliamentary cooperation, members of the delegation of the Committee for Romanians Everywhere of the Romanian Senate said in a meeting with Head of Parliament Andrian Candu on December 1, IPN reports.

“For Romania, supporting the Republic of Moldova in the European integration process remains a top priority. We hope the steps towards the rapprochement with the EU will be as accentuated as possible,” said the Committee’s head Marcel Bujor.

According to the Parliament’s press service, Andrian Candu congratulated the senators and all the Romanian citizens on the occasion of the National Day of Romania and thanked Romania for the support provided to Moldova in its European integration efforts. He also referred to the legislative priorities, accomplishments and overdue measures in the rapprochement with the EU. “The implementation of the Association Agreement is the fastest and most qualitative way of modernizing the country. This accord contains what Moldova needs during the next ten years,” he stated.

Among other priorities the Speaker mentioned the swift formation of a new Government, continuation of discussions with the International Monetary Fund, the justice sector and energy sector reforms, the fight against corruption and investigation of the bank frauds.

The participants in the meeting discussed possibilities of intensifying interparliamentary cooperation, including at the level of permanent committees, parliamentary expertise and approximation of the legislation, the application of the Community acquis, reciprocal visits to stimulate the implementation of the Association Agreements and the institutional capacity strengthening projects implemented in Moldova’s Parliament with the support of the Parliament of Romania, including the e-Parliament conception.

The delegation of the Senate’s Committee for Romanians Everywhere is paying a working visit to Chisinau between November 29 and December 2. It consists of Senators Marcel Bujor, Viorel Badea, who is the Committee’s deputy head, Ion-Simion Purec, Iulia Cristache, Sorin Iliesiu, and Victor Mocanu.
