Romania to support Moldova at Vilnius Summit

Romania promises to support Moldova in its European integration efforts and in attracting investment projects. In a meeting with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, Romanian Minister of Economy Varujan Vosganian, co-chairman of the Joint Moldovan-Romanian Intergovernmental Commercial-Economic Cooperation Commission, said that at the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit of November Romania will be a tenacious supporter of Moldova, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government.

The Romanian official reiterated that the project to build the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline will be implemented as it is a commitment of Romania. He said he will convince Romanian investors to take part in strengthening the private economy of Moldova.

For his part, Iurie Leanca said that Moldova wants to have as close cooperation relations with Romania as possible.

Trade between the two states in January – July rose by 17%, totaling over US$600 million.
