Romania decided to offer 100 million euros in non-repayable financial assistance to Moldova during 2010-1013. The money will be disbursed in four equal yearly installments of 25 million euros each. It will be used to implement projects to modernize schools and restore local infrastructure. The announcement was made by the President of Romania Traian Basescu in a briefing in Chisinau on January 27, Info-Prim Neo reports. The parties will negotiate and sign the relevant agreement the next days, in accordance with the EU norms, Basescu said. In another connection, the Romanian head of state said the interconnection of the energy, gas transportation and railway infrastructure is very important for Moldova's economic relations with Romania and the EU. Traian Basescu said that one of the major Romanian projects for Moldova is the 110 kW power line Falciu-Gotesti, which could become operational by the end of 2010. “Romania has built 28.3 km of the line on its territory. I understood that the works in Moldova will be completed by this yearend. We cover the connection costs. Moldova's energy system will be connected with the similar system of Romania and, implicitly, of the EU,” Traian Basescu said. Basescu also spoke about the 400 kW power line Suceava-Balti. He said that this project is now being examined by the environment authorities. “It is an important project and Romania pledges to find European funding for it. Only 30 million euros is needed for it,” he said. A project to interconnect the gas transportation system “Drochia-Ungheni-Iasi” will be implemented under the Moldovan-Romanian neighborhood policy. In a bilateral meeting, Mihai Ghimpu and Traian Basescu agreed to resume the Moldovan-Romanian talks over the 12 bilateral agreements that remained frozen for a period. These agreements provide for the creation of the Moldovan-Romanian legal framework that would meet the European requirements. Basescu and Ghimpu discussed the bilateral relations between Moldova and Romania at a meeting on January 27. The Romanian president is paying a two-day working visit to Chisinau.
