On July 15, Romania will host the second edition of the Moldova Support Platform donors’ conference, an initiative by France, Germany and Romania.
Aspects of the conference were discussed during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister/ Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu, and Cristian Leon Țurcanu, Romania’s incoming Ambassador to Moldova, as the latter presented his credentials.
“The special relationship with Romania is based on the community of language, history and culture, as well as on our strategic partnership for European integration”, stated Nicu Popescu. The Minister thanked the Romanian side for the consistent support provided to the Republic of Moldova in obtaining EU candidate status. In the context of the regional situation, the two sides agreed to strengthen resilience, energy security and infrastructure projects.
The first Moldova Support Platform donors’ conference took place in Berlin in April. During the event, the participating countries pledged more than 695 million euros in support to Moldova, including direct budget assistance as well as funding for reforms and Europeanization efforts.
