Romania to create a development fund for Moldova
The Government of Romania intends to establish a development fund for Moldova. Its activity will be regulated by an intergovernmental agreement, Romania’s PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu announced during a meeting with President Vladimir Voronin in Chisinau.
According to the presidential press service, there were examined different issues related to the present stage and prospects for developing bilateral cooperation relations.
Voronin and Popescu-Tariceanu agreed on the need for a pragmatic, open and frank approach to all the aspects of the relations between the two countries, and for fully drawing advantage from the potential of the commercial and economic relations.
The head of state welcomed the proposals presented by the Romanian PM in what concerns the implementation of several programmes in Moldova, by attracting Romanian investors, in the energy sector, processing industry, transport infrastructure, and other areas of common interest. In this respect the president mentioned about the high interest of the Romanian economic entities in starting businesses in Moldova, as well as the 56% increase in the volume of Moldovan exports to Romania in the first 4 months of 2007 against the similar period last year.
The quoted source emphasises, referring to the issue on signing a political agreement between Moldova and Romania and of the state border treaties that the parties pleaded in favour of resuming the negotiations between the two states on this issue.
Also, the parties discussed the European integration issue. Calin Popescu-Tariceanu reiterated Romania’s support of the efforts made by the Moldovan authorities in this respect, and Vladimir Voronin said Moldova is interested in using the experience of Romania in this field.
