Romania, Sweden support consolidation of 112 Service

During the first year of work, all the 82 operators of the National Common Emergency Telephone Service 112 were instructed so that they could ensure the proper functioning of the newly created service. Ionel-Sorinel Vasilcă, director of the Special Telecommunications Service of Romania, which is a partner in the implementation of the 112 Service in Moldova, said the 112 Service in Moldova was outfitted with the most modern technologies existing worldwide, IPN reports.

In a conference held to assess the results of the project to support the creation of the 112 Service, Ionel-Sorinel Vasilcă said the operators were taught to communicate in situations of stress and how to manage them and also what standard questions to put to the callers to make sure the collected information is accurate and how to ensure communicate between institutions.

Vitalie Tarlev, secretary of state at the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, said Sweden and Romania were near the Republic of Moldova before the implementation of the 112 Service as well, sharing their experience and good practices.

Sweden’s Ambassador to Moldova Anna Lyberg said the 112 Service is important for saving lives in emergency situations. 112 is a common emergency number in all the European countries and the implementation of this service in Moldova too is in accordance with the Association Agreement.

Cătălin Harnagea, director of the Romanian Agency for International Development, spoke about his country’s experience, saying it is useful in implementing this service in the Republic of Moldova. 112 is an instrument that enables to react faster in emergencies.

Liviu Oboroc, director of the 112 Service in Moldova, said the number of those who call 112 has increased. Respectively, fewer people call the three traditional emergency numbers to seek help from the police, firefighters or the ambulance service. Information campaigns will be carried out in schools next year. The students will be trained how and when to call the 112 Service so as to reduce the number of non-urgent calls.
