Romania should support actors of positive change in Moldova, USR

Romania should support the actors of positive change in Moldova, namely those whose goal is to de-oligarchize and Europeanize the country, Matei Dobrovie, MP of the Save Romania Union (USR) of Romania, stated in a news conference at IPN. The MP noted that the living standards for the people will be improved only if the two dimensions are ensured.

According to Matei Dobrovie, the actors of positive change in Moldova are NGOs, strong civil society, the independent press and new parties. These need assistance in building a really democratic Moldovan society. That’s why the given actors should apply for financing for different relevant projects through a grants managing fund on a competition basis. Work should be done on the common information space component. “We speak about the union in vain if we do not have serious Romanian media presence in the Republic of Moldova, which would counteract the Russian propaganda and local oligarchic propaganda,” said the USR MP.

Matei Dobrovie also said that if the actors of positive change are financed this way, the loss of money will be avoided and the effects of the assistance offered by Romania to the citizens and the Republic of Moldova will be more evident. “We surely see that the situation in Moldova is very and very difficult. Democracy has eroded and there is the mixed electoral system that visibly favors the Plahotniuc-Dodon duo and we should say it clearly that Romania regrettably supports this Plahotniuc regime through the ruling party PSD,” stated the MP.

At the same time, the USR, as an opposition party, aims to follow and assess the use of the money provided to Moldova in assistance and to determine how visible these investments are here.

In another development, Senator for Romanians from Outside the Borders Radu Mihail said the elections in Chisinau are not really seen in Romania and the attention devoted to the political life in Moldova there is not sufficient. “The press in Bucharest does no think that such an important political event as the elections deserves to be covered. There is a big interest in speculating on the union theme and a small interest in such concrete things as the political situation and the political landscape. But these things are needed to ensure a real union of the two states,” stated the Senator.

In this connection, the USR reiterated its position to support in elections pro-European forces that want to modernize the Republic of Moldova. According to the Romanian party, only the PAS, PPPDA and PLDM, with which they had common discussions the previous days, showed that they are ready to do this for now.
