Romania reiterates readiness to support concretization of Moldova’s European aspirations
Romania confirmed its readiness to continue promoting the message to offer European prospects to Moldova in the dialogue with the organizations and member states of the EU. The subject was discussed during political consultations that involved Romanian State Secretary for Strategic Affairs Bogdan Aurescu and Moldovan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Popov, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau, Bogdan Aurescu underlined the excellent privileged relations between Romania and Moldova, which have an impact both on the political-diplomatic dialogue and on the economic cooperation, including in the energy sector. The two officials highlighted the interest in developing the bilateral cooperation by fostering the dialogue at sector level and implementing projects in different areas so as to achieve the common strategic objective – Moldova’s entry into the European Union.
In a communiqué, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration says that the two officials also discussed the diversification of energy sources. They stressed the strategic value and interest in implementing projects to ensure the energy interconnection of Moldova with Romania and, consequently, with the European energy system by building the Ungheni-Iasi gas pipeline and the junction of high-voltage power lines. Bogdan Aurescu reiterated Romanian’s readiness to support the concretization of Moldova’s European aspirations by relevant projects and the efforts to strengthen the Moldovan institutions for the people’s direct benefit.
The two officials took stock of the main items included in Moldova’s European agenda, with emphasis on the progress made in negotiating the Association Agreement with the EU and the Agreement on the Creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the EU, in the dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime between Moldova and the EU.
Bogdan Aurescu’s visit to Moldova continued with the participation in the inauguration of a water supply system in Rosu village of Cahul district. The project was financed by the Government of Romania.
