While in Chisinau for a joint government meeting, Romanian Minister of Defense Vasile Dîncu reconfirmed the openness of the Romanian Government to modernizing the defense capabilities of Moldova’s National Army according to international standards. The Romanian official also stressed the importance of strengthening resilience in crisis situations, referring to the mutual support that Romania and the Republic of Moldova provided during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have recently proved, once again, that we can work together effectively, giving each other support in difficult situations. In 2020, doctors and nurses from Romania, including military doctors, came to support colleagues across the Prut, and in 2021 medical staff from the Republic of Moldova provided support to colleagues from Romania”, said Vasile Dîncu, as quoted in a press release from the Moldovan Ministry of Defense.
“Romania has been an important strategic partner for the Republic of Moldova. Over time, we have managed to build sincere, unconditional and confirmed friendships through the large number of joint projects, programs and actions aimed at developing the defense sector of our country”, stated Minister Anatolie Nosatii.
The Moldovan official appreciated Romania's significant contribution to ensuring the participation of the Moldovan and Romanian military in drills carried out at training centers in both countries. He also highlighted the expertise and valuable assistance provided in the context of the implementation of the objectives of the Republic of Moldova - European Union Action Plan and the Individual Action Plan of the Partnership with NATO, in particular the Defense Capacity Building Initiative Package and other relevant assistance programs.
“We continue to rely on the experience of Romanian partners in reforming the defense sector according to democratic standards, which is an important goal for the current government, as well as strengthening the capabilities of the National Army to participate in international peacekeeping operations”, added Anatolie Nosatii.
The two ministers also signed a Protocol on Cooperation in Military Education.
