Romania offers 50,000 euros to help Moldova overcome drought

Romania will offer 50,000 euros from its development assistance budget to Moldova to help it alleviate the effects of this year's drought, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on its website that the decision comes following Moldova's appeal for international assistance and that it was communicated to the head of Moldovan diplomacy. Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca wrote to his Romanian counterpart Titus Corlatean to express gratitude for this “gesture of solidarity”. The Romanian MFA said the funds will be transferred to the authorities in Chisinau in the immediate future. Earlier this month, the Government of Romania, in particular the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, offered 110,000 tonnes of seeds to Moldovan farmers hit by the drought.
