The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania offers a voluntary contribution of €250,000 for implementing projects in support of civil society and the independent press of the Republic of Moldova, by the decision of Minister Bogdan Aurescu, IPN reports.
According to the Embassy of Romania, the decision is aimed at continuing Romania’s activities to support Moldova’s European course that is the only option that can ensure the stability and prosperity of its citizens. This way, Romania aims to stimulate Moldova’s affiliation to the European values and the democratic principles by concrete support provided to civil society and the mass media as the main promoters of these values.
The contribution is allocated from the budget intended for international cooperation for development and humanitarian assistance for 2020 and will be provided through the agency of the European Endowment for Democracy (EED) that was established in 2013 by the EU and the EU member states as an independent entity to promote projects aimed at fostering democracy and human rights in the European Neighborhood.
The Romanian side will continue to offer direct support to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova under the special relationship based on the common language, culture and history and on the Strategic Partnership for the European Integration of the Republic of Moldova.
