The Republic of Moldova and Romania over the next six months will work out a common plan of action for an eventual energy crisis. The document will stipulate a series of actions and measures needed to ensure continuity in the supply of electrical energy and natural gas. Among the actions is the mutual provision of alternative fuels for producing heat intended for centralized heating systems and combined heat and power.

The designing of the plan is stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Romania on cooperation in energy security that was signed by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, and Minister of Energy of Romania Virgil Daniel Popescu, IPN reports.

There will be set up a Transfrontier Crisis Coordination Group that will involve the regulatory authorities and transmission system and natural gas and electricity system operators.

“The signed memorandum stipulates a dialogue framework under which we will be able to exchange information and to coordinate the actions for ensuring the continuous supply of electrical energy and natural gas to consumers without affecting the undertaken obligations, in accordance with the platforms and mechanisms of coordination implemented within the Energy Community and the European Union. During the next six months, we will design a common plan of action and solidarity measures for an eventual energy crisis,” stated Virgil Popescu.

The Romanian minister also said that Romania supports the harmonization of the internal legislation of the Republic of Moldova with the European energy legislation. “I strongly believe that we can explore in the future new areas of cooperation between our countries in the field of energy. Romania was, is and will always be near the Republic of Moldova so that the country achieves the objective of becoming a member of the European Union,” said Virgil Popescu.
