Romania-Moldova Commission for European Integration to meet after a pause of two years

The Joint Commission for European Integration between the Parliament of Romania and the Parliament of Moldova will have a meeting in Chisinau on June 22, after a hiatus of two years, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press office, the meeting will discuss the implementation level of the Association Agreement with the EU, parliamentary cooperation and support projects, the justice sector reform, energy interconnection projects, the development prospects for the Romanian business community in Moldova and education and youth projects.

The commission’s co-chairman on behalf of Moldova George Mocanu said the legal mechanism for disbursing the first tranche of the loan provided by the Government of Romania was already agreed. Moldova is to now present the steps taken to meet the imposed conditions. “We will also discuss the problem of expired Romanian passports whose holders were recently announced that they no longer have Romanian nationality because they obtained the Romanian birth certificate and passport based on the Romanian papers of parents when being minors. We hope to find a viable solution,” he stated.

At the end of the meeting, the MPs will sign the Statement of the fifth Meeting of the Joint Commission for European Integration between the Parliament of Romania and the Parliament of Moldova, while co-chairmen George Mocanu and Florin Constantinescu will hold a press briefing.
