Romania made a gift to Moldova in a very difficult period, statements

The Government of Romania made a gift to Moldova by offering it a loan of €150 million at a time when the country goes through a very difficult period. Such statements were made in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Economic expert Viorel Garbu said the loan provided by the Government of Romania is priceless now that all the foreign backers refused to lend to Moldova. “The situation in the Moldovan economy is very difficult. This cash injection comes at a moment when Moldova is close to a default. Romania’s gesture is very welcome,” he stated.

Mihai Godea, chairman of the Party “Democratic Action”, also welcomed the Romanian Government’s decision to lend to Moldova. “This decision by the Government of Romania surprised me, but I’m very glad that the Romanian authorities started to consider the Moldovan citizens a common entity. Moldova will not be able to identify solutions to the serious problems it faces. The IMF mission that came to Chisinau is only a fact-finding one. Even if an agreement is reached, the money from the IMF will not reach Moldova this year. So, this loan is a gift for Moldova,” he stated.

Former founding member of the Party of Socialists Valentin Krylov welcomed the assistance provided by the official Bucharest. “It’s good that Moldova wasn’t left alone,” he said.

Romania decided to provide a €150 million loan to Moldova for coping with the economic crisis until the country signs financing agreements with international organizations. The information was made public after the joint meeting of the Governments of Moldova and Romania that took place in Constanta on September 22.
