Romania initiates procedure for allocating first tranche of €150m loan

The Government of Romania commenced the technical procedure for disbursing the first tranche of the loan of €150 million intended for Moldova, Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos announced in a meeting with Head of Parliament Andrian Candu. This welcomed the results achieved by the Moldovan authorities in implementing the priority reform action roadmap, IPN reports, quoting the legislature’s press office.

“We want Romania’s support to be not only a financial one, but to be also used by Moldova for regaining the confidence of the Western partners. It is important to obtain results and to do reforms stage by stage so that the money provided by the Government of Romania supports the initiated changes,” stated Dacian Ciolos.

He noted that the implementation of the roadmap will generate important changes in the area of justice, in the fight against corruption and in the financial-banking sector. Dacian Ciolos inquired about the steps taken by the authorities to simplify administration and control in the business sector of Moldova. He encouraged the authorities to more actively engage the NGO sector in the decision-making process.

Andrian Candu said the adoption of the roadmap will serve as a mobilizing stimulus and will make the Government and Parliament to synchronize their agendas and to more efficiently fulfill the commitments made to the EU and to also institute new monitoring and reporting mechanisms in this respect.

In this connection, the Speaker expressed his conviction that the authorities will manage to carry out the planned measures by the end of the current session of Parliament even if June and July are expected to be full of legislative work.

In another development, Andrian Candu expressed his gratitude to the Government of Romania for the support provided to Moldova and appreciated the continuation of the bilateral cooperation projects announced by Dacian Ciolos for the immediate future. Within these, 100 school minibuses will be offered to Moldovan education institutions. The program to repair kindergartens in Moldova will be continued. About €3 million will be allocated for the purpose.
