Romania fully committed itself to support Moldova’s European course, Romanian MP

Romania unconditionally supports the European course of the Republic of Moldova, while the relations between the two states are at the highest level, said the co-chairman of the Joint Commission for European Integration between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the Parliament of Romania Andrei Daniel Gheorghe. According to the Romanian MP, Romania’s desideratum is to help Moldova become part of the European family and to benefit from the peace and wellbeing offered by the EU membership, IPN reports.

The ninth meeting of the Joint Commission for European Integration is taking place in Chisinau. Romania MP Andrei Daniel Gheorghe said that Romania remains the most reliable advocate of the Republic of Moldova in Brussels.

“The relations between us are not only of neighborhood or partnership. These are relations from inside the same family. Today they are better than ever. They are at the highest level since the Republic of Moldova declared its independence. We haven’t seen such emotions, such enthusiasm that can lead to historic deeds since the Flower Bridge. Romania definitely supports the Republic of Moldova. There is no doubt in Bucharest about the support for the Republic of Moldova. Romania fully and unconditionally undertook to support the European course of the Republic of Moldova. We would like the accession negotiations to be opened this year and the country to naturally come closer to the homeland Romania,” Andrei Daniel Gheorghe stated in the program “At 360 Degrees” on Radio Moldova channel.

Representatives of the Moldovan government said that Romania helped Moldova to overcome the overlapping crises generated by the war in Ukraine. The energy and financial support offered by the Romanian Government is a clear proof of the privileged relations between the two states.

“The citizens felt this support when they saw that the Russians cut the gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova, while Romania provided gas to cover the shortage. When the Russian Federation damaged the power supply networks, Romania connected us to the electricity supply. When the Russian Federation blocked the export of Moldovan products, Romania opened up its market more. The times are now turbulent, but favor the European integration. Romania shows that it is a brother for us and managed to stimulate the European integration process by diplomatic ways because we belong to the European Union. The citizens realize that the EU can bring wellbeing, peace and higher living standards,” said PAS MP Petru Frunze.

The Joint Commission for European Integration between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the Parliament of Romania was constituted ion 2010. It consists of ten Moldovan and ten Romanian MPs. The commission comes together for two times a year, alternatively in Moldova and in Romania.
