Romania fulfilled its commitment to offer humanitarian aid in the form of food products and crude oil, which was made at the start of this year, the new Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ionita said in a news conference held in connection with the taking up of his duties, IPN reports.

The diplomat noted that Romania fulfilled all the commitments assumed at the beginning of this year and provided 1,170 tonnes of sugar, by 10 tonnes of flour, maize, rice and pasta as well as canned meat and vegetables, liver pâté and crude oil for thermoelectric plants in assistance.

The main food products were donated before Easter to persons with severe disabilities. The sugar was given to persons with disabilities, social facilities, placement centers for children and adults, parent assistants, children’s homes, nurseries and hospitals. It was suggested including also the families with three and more children or the one-parent families with at least two children in this program. The goods were valued at 16.69 million Romanian lei.

As regards the €150 million loan promised by Romania last autumn, the ambassador said that Bucharest is ready to anytime offer the first tranche of €60 million, but the Moldovan authorities must fulfill the conditions imposed by the Government of Romania, one of which is to sign a new program with the IMF.

Daniel Ionita referred also to the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline, saying this should be extended up to Chisinau for being economically viable. Some of the Romanian energy companies are ready to invest in this project, which is a priority for the government in Bucharest.
