The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Bogdan Aurescu said that Romania is ready to contribute to ensuring Moldova’s energy security by building a natural gas storage reservoir on its territory. At the same time, Romania asks the European Union to offer more support to the Republic of Moldova so as to help it cope with the wave of Ukrainian refugees and enter the EU, IPN reports, quoting digi24.ro.
“I’m therefore eager to have a discussion with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Nicu Popescu. We should help the Republic of Moldova to ensure its energy security and should work together with them so as to identify alternative sources of energy. We are ready to store gas from the Republic of Moldova in our reservoirs and to build a gas reservoir for the Republic of Moldova on Romania’s territory in the medium term,” explained Bogdan Aurescu.
He noted that Romania supports the organization of a conference in Berlin on April 5, together with Germany and France, for creating a Moldova Support Platform for encouraging the provision of foreign support to Moldova.
Bogdan Aurescu considers that the European perspective of the Republic of Moldova should also be discussed. Romania supports Moldova’s entry into the EU as it supports the entry of Ukraine and Georgia as the three countries deserve to be members of the European family and this is not only a circumstantial request made by the Republic of Moldova, for example. The Moldovan administration is very committed to the reform process, the democratic reform and European integration process.
The minister also said that the Republic of Moldova needs more assistance from the EU member states now that it hosts so many Ukrainian refugees. Green corridors were created to take Ukrainian refugees from Ukraine’s border with Moldova directly to Romania so as to diminish the pressure faced by the Moldovan authorities due to the high number of refugees. Romania also created a logistic center in the north of the country so as to collect and transfer humanitarian assistance not only to Ukraine, but also to Moldova. The aid consisting of products was already shipped to Moldova.
