Romania and the USA discuss about supporting the efforts of international community related to settling Transnistrian issue
The Romanian minister of foreign affairs, Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu discussed with David Kramer, the representative of USA within the frameworks of the extended negotiation format (5+2) on the concrete methods of supporting the efforts of the international community dedicated to the political settlement of the Transnistrian dispute considering the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the Romanian foreign minister, the talks were based on the Transnistrian issue and on analyzing the perspectives of conflict’s peaceful settlement. The recent evolutions occurred in the settlement process were analyzed, including the intention of the regime from Tiraspol to organize on September 17, 2006 an independence referendum.
This is the second visit to Bucharest during this year of the representative of the USA at the 5+2 format negotiations.
The extended format talks, where the USA and the EU have the role of observers started on October 27, 2005. But after the 4th round, organized on February 27-28, 2006, the talks were interrupted because the involved sides did not agree on a series of issues, especially on the problem of the inhabitants of Dorotcaia village, prohibited by Transnistrian authorities to farm their plots located in the region controlled by Tiraspol.
