Romania and Moldova aim to intensify political and economic relations

President Nicolae Timofti met with the Romanian delegation headed by the chairman of the Romanian Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea. The two officials underlined the special and dynamic character of the relations between the two states and reiterated the sides’ readiness to intensify the political and economic relations that are important for Moldova’s European integration and for completing the joint infrastructure projects, IPN reports.

According to the presidential press service, Nicolae Timofti thanked the Romanian side for the assistance provided in overcoming the consequences of the commercial ban to which Moldova was subject and for the investments made in the national education and health systems. He welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Moldova’s Parliament and the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament. The document creates possibilities for the Romanian side to provide assistance to Moldova in the legislative process for strengthening the institutions, fighting corruption, improving the business framework and developing the economy.

Valeriu Zgonea said Romania and the whole Romanian political class will continue to support Moldova in its aspirations to modernize and to ensure security and social prosperity. “By everything we do for Moldova, we transmit a signal for growing investments and reducing social injustice,” he stated.

The Romanian official noted that the political will and fulfillment of the commitments assumed by the Moldovan authorities are decisive for ensuring the success of the European reforms.
