Romania and EU inquire about situation in AEI

The European Union and Romania have inquired about the recent changes in the Alliance for European Integration (AEI). The head of the Liberal Party (PL), which forms part of the AEI, had discussions on the issue with the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel and Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the PL, Moldova’ a European integration prospects were a separate subject for discussion in the meeting of Mihai Ghimpu and Dirk Schuebel. The ambassador stressed that the Moldovan authorities should make effort to achieve the objectives that were assumed before the European partners and included din the government program, especially the fight against corruption and the abusive use of public money. Mihai Ghimpu also spoke over the phone with Titus Corlatean. He said that despite the crisis in the ruling alliance, the Liberal Party does not renounce the European integration objective as this is an absolute priority and an expectation of the people. “The Republic of Moldova needs political stability in order to cover the road to European integration,” stated Mihai Ghimpu. Titus Corlatean said that Romania has always been Moldova’s sincere and disinterested advocate and supported the country’s European integration without reserves. He underlined that the AEI components should hold discussions in order to find a solution as Moldova needs to sign the agreements with the EU by the end of this year.
