The bill to amend and supplement the law on the identification papers in the national passports system implies money laundering risks. That’s why the MPs should have thoroughly analyzed things so as to eliminate the risks by clear formulations that wouldn’t have made the law interpretable, Liberal MP Roman Botan stated in the program “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.
Roman Botan said he is against this bill because the number of 5,000 persons who could obtain Moldovan nationality by making investments was changed with 5,000 main applicants. “The figure does not include the foreign citizens and stateless persons and the members of their families – the husband or wife, children or parents. So, the number of 5,000 was extended unjustifiably,” he stated.
Furthermore, the MP noted that the nationality law exempts only the persons with disabilities and the pensioners from the obligation to know the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and the official language. The new amendments free also the foreign citizens who will obtain nationally for investments from this obligation.
According to Roman Botan, another important aspect is the fact that the names of persons who will obtain nationality will be secret. “Initially, the bill provided that the decrees to grant nationality signed by the President should not be published. But this is against the Constitution. At my insistence, the provisions were changed so that only the identification data of the file will be published, not yet of the citizen. The question is who receives nationality?” stated the MP.
Roman Botan resigned from the post of chairman of the Parliament’s commission on national security, defense and public order. The announcement was made in the May 24 sitting of Parliament during the examination of a bill to amend and supplement the law on identification papers in the national passports system. The MP explained he does not agree with provisions of the draft law and does not want to be obliged to sign the appraisal of the commission he headed.
