A number of 27 nongovernmental organizations have united within a platform called “Voice of the Roma” to propose solutions and cooperate with the Government in developing the ethnic community. The announcement was made in a news conference on November 22, IPN reports.
Among solutions, the platform “Voice of the Roma” suggests delegating a representative of the Roma community to work on the Government and deal directly with the problems of the Roma community in the Republic of Moldova.
“The platform brings together 27 organizations of the 51 Roma organizations. 24 organizations do not work and were only registered. We united and are ready to cooperate with the Government and propose solutions. We established relations with all the international bodies. We want to have a sustainable partnership with the Department for Interethnic Relations and have the ethnic group’s representative on this body,” said Vasile Drangoi, head of the platform “Voice of the Roma”.
In the news conference, the platform “Voice of the Roma” presented a report on the institution of community mediators in the communities where there are at least 150 Romanies.
Report author Laurentia Filipschi said the report is actually a study of the benefits of the system of community mediators and of the problems faced in the implementation of this system.
“It was ascertained that in the communities where there are no community mediators, such problems as schooling of Roma children and access to medical assistance are not solved. Regrettably, this system is not well implemented. There are also legislative problems,” stated the expert.
