Role of science in European integration process presented at an exhibition

The Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau on June 16 mounted an exhibition of photos that illustrate the role of science in the European integration process. The exhibition is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Romanian Academy and the 55th anniversary of the foundation of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, IPN reports.

The photos were exhibited at the “La Rond” Gallery located in the square before the Monument to Ruler Stephan the Great in Chisinau. The Institute’s director Valeriu Matei said the exhibition includes photographs and texts about how the Academy of Sciences and its education institutions were founded and present all these institutions and aspects related to intra-Romanian, European and international cooperation.

“We perceived it from the start as homage rendered to those who then, in 1866, knew to combine forces to create a scientific institution designed to establish the norms of functioning of the Romanian language, on the one hand, and to develop what was important in the cultural heritage of the Romanian area, on the other hand,” stated Valeriu Matei.

Academy of Sciences president Gheorghe Duca said the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, even if it’s insufficiently financed and is groundlessly criticized, is at the top of the research institutions of the world by its performance. “Of the 15,000 institutions examined by an international organization, we rank 343rd. It is a very good place. We are ahead of many academies. It is the people of science, the people of culture and the creators who make us visible in Europe and the world,” he stated.

The exhibition is to be presented in a number of settlements of Moldova.
