The role of culture is to reestablish the balance in the society, the famous plastic artist Alexei Colybneak said during the fourth CIS Intellectuality Forum held in Chisinau between September 24 and 25, Info-Prim Neo reports. In an interview, Colybneak said that most of the people of culture from the CIS are tired of the transition period Therefore, things should be clarified – What shall we do next: to identify common points and go on or continue the useless polemics?” the artist said. “We gathered here at the Palace of the Republic – representatives of the peoples who share two great religions – Christianity and Islamism. We get along together as we have similar problems and set similar objectives. On the one hand, we must reestablish the balance in the society, with culture playing the role of cushion against political, personal and other conflicts. On the other hand, we participate in the creation of the heritage of our country and want that this patrimony becomes know and forms part of the universal values. We can do this by intercultural dialogue and by other methods,” Colybneak stressed. In this connection, the plastic artist said that he was deeply impressed by the speech of the UNESCO representative. ”He announced that a series of regional conferences will be held in the post-Soviet area during 2010 – 2011 under the aegis of this international organization. They will center on a new paradigm of culture, when it is not only an instrument for educating the society but also an aim. We hope that the policy on culture will be then changed and it will not be used for political purposes or to intimidate somebody. During the next two years, UNESCO will propose a new conception of art education. There will be formulated many new ideas and I hope that these young people of culture, the new generations of intellectuals participating in this summit alongside renowned persons will be able to put these ideas into practice,” Alexei Colybneak said.
