Outgoing minister of environment Rodica Iordanov will continue work as part of the Government led by Dorin Recean if this is voted in by Parliament. She said that she discussed the possibility of forming part of the new government team together with the candidate for premiership and accepted the proposal to further manage the Ministry of Environment, IPN reports.
The outgoing minister noted that she will most probably form part of the Recean Government that is to be voted in at the February 16 sitting of Parliament.
“It’s true that I was made proposals and we discussed options with the candidate for Prime Minister. A final decision is to be taken. We will wait until Thursday, if it’s the case, and will go to Parliament. There are particular technical steps that need to be covered,” Rodica Iordanov stated in the program “Résumé” on RliveTV channel.
She noted that Natalia Gavrilița’s resignation took the Cabinet members by surprise. The reforms launched at the Ministry of Environment and the approximation of the EU environmental legislation are priorities she set when she took over and she would like to achieve them as part of the Recean Government.
“We didn’t know about the Cabinet resignation decision. I was summoned from my trip as very important meetings were planned. I then learned that Natalia Gavrilița decided to resign. She said that this is a personal, assumed decision. Later, the candidate for premiership discussed the possibility of forming part of the new Government with us. I would like to continue for the simple reason that I set particular objectives. Moreover, with the team from the Ministry of Environment, we managed to work out policies and agreed the steps that need to be taken in order to accelerate the European integration process. I don’t want to abandon my team and don’t want the made effort and the diligence to be lost. That’s why I accepted in principle,” said Rodica Iordanov.
Under the law, Dorin Recean has 15 days of his designation to form the government team and to work out the government program. Later, he will ask for a vote of confidence from Parliament. The Government can be installed with the votes of at least 51 MPs. The parliamentary group of the Party of Action and Solidarity has 64 members and representatives of the PAS earlier said that they will support the Recean Government. On Tuesday, outgoing minister of agriculture and food industry Vladimir Bolea also confirmed that he will form part of the Cabinet led by Dorin Recean.
