“We are delivering another €145 million to support Moldova’s reforms as the country continues to defy Russian threats,” the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola posted on Twitter, being quoted by IPN.
The agreement reached by the MEPs and the EU member states on the provision of €145 million in macro-financial aid to Moldova was signed by the President of the European Parliament on June 14 in Strasbourg.
Roberta Metsola wrote: “Three weeks ago in Chisinau, I told the people of Moldova that they are not alone. We are delivering another €145 million to support Moldova’s reforms as the country continues to defy Russian threats. Moldova’s future is in the European Union.”
In May, the European Parliament voted to provide €145 million in financial assistance to Moldova. “The Republic of Moldova urgently needed this new macro-financial assistance to ensure macroeconomic stability and to take new support measures for the people. The support, totaling €45 million in grants and up to €100 million in loans, will be disbursed in two installments planned for the third and fourth quarters of this year. I’m glad that we swiftly approved this financial support. It was essential for the new assistance to be approved without delay for the money to reach the Republic of Moldova in the second half of this year. The decision was adopted by 561 votes to 43, with 20 abstentions, which shows, again, that the European Parliament is united in its intention to help the Republic of Moldova,” said MEP Siegfried Mureșan.
