Roaming tariffs between Moldova and EU to drop from January

From January 1, 2024, roaming tariffs between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union will begin to decrease. This was announced by President Maia Sandu during a joint press conference with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

“I am happy to announce that today our country and the European Union signed an agreement to liberalize roaming. This means that, when we go to the EU countries, we will be able to talk to our families back home more often and cheaper”, said President Maia Sandu.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean also expressed his appreciation for the joint efforts made by European officials and the Moldovan authorities, but also for the national and international operators who made this achievement possible. He declared that the reduction of roaming tariffs is a strong signal regarding the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the single European economic space.

The European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, spoke about the benefits of signing this agreement for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. “Lower roaming charges will have numerous advantages for citizens, for the business community and for the diaspora. I hope that this will bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European single market. We will continue to support Moldova in the process of digitization and connection with European values and space. In these uncertain times, it is crucial to maintain security, prosperity, peace and unity”, Commissioner Várhelyi added.
